Gas mileage tips:
- Do not top off your gas. When filling up your tank, leaving a little room is ok. Filling your tank to the brim can cause overflow or leakage.
- Keep your cap tight! By leaving your gas cap loose 1 of 2 things can happen. 1) Gas will evaporate from your tank 2) Air gets in the tank and can trigger your "check engine" light.
- Keep your car cool: The sun can heat your car up in the summer, but also helps contribute to gas evaporation. Fun fact: Every year approx 147 million gallons of gas evaporates from cars.
- Always use the manufacturer recommend oil for your vehicle. This will help improve your gas mileage by at least 1-2 percent.
Tire care and maintenance:
- Always check your tire pressure to ensure correct pressure at all times. Low tire pressure can affect more than just the handling of the vehicle. It can also contribute to the gas mileage.
- Keeping your wheels aligned.Â
- Rotate your tires every 6 mo or 5,000 miles
- Check your spare tire. Its recommended to check your spare tire once a month to keep it properly inflated in case of an emergency
